Raising the Standard: Celebrating My Advanced Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve recently achieved the Advanced Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy — a qualification held by fewer than 100 practitioners across the UK. This is more than just a personal milestone. It’s a powerful step forward in how I support clients and train future hypnotherapists.
This advanced course deepened my understanding of critical thinking, research-based practice, neuroscience, diversity, ethics, and more. It challenged me to not only reflect on what I do as a hypnotherapist — but also why I do it, and how I can continue to offer the most effective, ethical, and client-centred support possible.
Why This Matters to My Clients
One of the core focuses of the diploma was applying research findings to clinical hypnotherapy. That means staying informed, being open to new approaches, and avoiding the trap of relying only on personal experience or outdated techniques.
I now regularly explore high-quality studies, including those found in Google Scholar, to tailor interventions based on what actually works. Whether supporting someone with anxiety, sleep issues, or building confidence, my approach is grounded in evidence, not assumption.
Hypnosis: Backed by Science, Not Just Imagination
The neuroscience aspect of the course was fascinating. I learned how hypnosis activates and deactivates specific regions of the brain — showing that it’s not just “imagination” or placebo, but a measurable, altered state of awareness. Understanding this adds credibility to the work I do and helps to position hypnotherapy as a respected tool in the wider health and wellbeing field.
More Reflective, More Effective
Another major takeaway was the importance of reflective practice. I now make time to regularly evaluate my sessions, looking at what worked, what could be improved, and what I’ve learned. This process keeps me grounded, adaptive, and always focused on the client’s best interests.
I’ve also reviewed and refined my assessment process, ensuring it’s more personalised and responsive to each client’s unique needs. My decision-making is now more intentional and backed by both evidence and insight.
Training the Next Generation
In addition to client work, I also offer training for those wanting to become qualified hypnotherapists. This diploma has added depth to the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy I deliver, ensuring the content is not only practical and ethical, but underpinned by critical thinking and up-to-date research.
Students benefit from a learning environment that encourages curiosity, reflection, and the ability to work in an informed, flexible, and responsible way. Just as I’ve grown from this course, I’m passionate about helping others do the same.
A Stronger, More Credible Practice
Ultimately, this qualification isn’t just a certificate on the wall, it’s a commitment to higher standards, lifelong learning, and better client outcomes. I’m proud of the deeper level of care, awareness, and professionalism it’s helped me bring into my practice.
Whether you’re a client looking for support or someone considering hypnotherapy training, know that the work we do together will be informed by the latest evidence, tailored to your needs, and delivered with integrity.
