Why Supporting a Small Business Matters More Than You Might Realise
Small Business Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the incredible contribution that small businesses make to our communities.
When people think about supporting a small business, they often think about making a purchase.
Buying a product, booking a service or attending an event.
And whilst those things are important, support often means so much more than that.
Behind every small business is a person.
A story.
A dream.
A reason they started.
My Journey
My own journey into business began in a way I never expected.
In 2009, my husband Neil was involved in a serious accident which left him with a crushed spine and living with chronic pain.
Like many families facing difficult circumstances, we were searching for answers and looking for ways to improve his quality of life.
It was during this time that I discovered hypnosis.
The results were remarkable.
Not because the pain magically disappeared, but because we discovered ways to help him reduce and manage it.
That experience changed the direction of my life.
It sparked a passion that eventually led me to train as a hypnotherapist, mindfulness practitioner, EFT practitioner, crystal therapist, sound therapist, trainer, author and speaker.
Today, I have the privilege of helping people who are struggling with anxiety, stress, fears, grief, low confidence, overwhelm and many other challenges.
Every day I meet people who arrive feeling stuck, exhausted or hopeless.
And every day I witness the incredible strength that people already have within them.
One of the greatest gifts of running a small business is being able to see the difference that your work makes.
The person who finally boards the plane.
The child who overcomes a fear.
The client who sleeps peacefully for the first time in years.
The grieving person who begins to find hope again.
The student who discovers a new career helping others.
These moments matter.
And they are only possible because people choose to support small businesses.
Behind the Scences
What many people don’t see are the countless hours that happen behind the scenes.
- The training courses.
- The books.
- The preparation.
- The emails.
- The resources.
- The notes.
- The planning.
The continual learning and development.
Small businesses are often powered by one person wearing many different hats.
- Therapist.
- Teacher.
- Author.
- Administrator.
- Marketer.
- Bookkeeper.
- Website editor.
- Social media manager.
- And sometimes tea maker too!
Your Support Matters
When you support a small business, you’re not helping a large corporation increase its profits.
You’re helping a real person continue doing work they genuinely care about.
You’re helping them serve their community.
You’re helping them create opportunities for others.
You’re helping them keep a dream alive.
And support doesn’t always need to involve spending money.
You can support a small business by:
- Leaving a review
- Recommending them to a friend
- Sharing a social media post
- Attending an event
- Commenting on their content
- Telling someone about their work
Sometimes those simple acts of kindness can make a bigger difference than you realise.
As Small Business Week reminds us, small businesses are often the heartbeat of our communities.
They bring personality, passion, creativity and connection.
So this week, I’d like to say thank you.
Thank you to every client, student, reader, supporter, friend and family member who has been part of my journey.
Your support has helped me build a business that allows me to do work I truly love.
And for that, I am deeply grateful.
With gratitude,
