Living With Grief – A Journey, Not a Destination

At some point in life, grief touches us all. It may be the loss of someone we love, a cherished pet, a relationship, a job, or even a version of ourselves we’ve outgrown. Grief isn’t something we simply “get over.” It’s something we learn to live with, in our own unique way and time.

For some, the intensity of grief can linger for months or even years. It may ebb and flow like the tide—sometimes catching us off guard. And that’s okay. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, nor is there a set timeline. Grief is deeply personal.

But when that grief starts to feel overwhelming, when it’s numbed with alcohol, food, isolation, or begins to dim the light from your everyday life, it might be time to seek support.

Hypnosis may help people to get over grief in a calm and genuine way. Grief is an organic process so it’s a good idea to a period of time to pass before disturbing the natural order. However, it can hit some harder than others. When the intensity of grief has lasted for months or years and is perhaps being “medicated”, by alcohol, food, or solitude, then it may be time to reach out.

How Hypnotherapy Can Support You Through Grief

Hypnotherapy doesn’t erase grief. It doesn’t “cure” it. Instead, it creates space for healing. It can gently help you:

  • Process painful memories in a safe, supported way
  • Reconnect with a sense of calm, peace, and purpose
  • Understand and soften the intense emotions that come with grief
  • Honour your loved one while still moving forward with life

Grief can bring with it a wave of emotional and physical symptoms including sleeplessness, anxiety, sadness, anger, confusion, and even guilt. Hypnotherapy can help ease the grip these feelings have on your body and mind, helping you feel more resourced and grounded.

Grief Is Not Just About Death

While most people associate grief with bereavement, it’s important to recognise that grief arises in many forms. The loss of a job, a home, a beloved pet, a friendship, or even a change in health or identity can all bring about grief.

These experiences are valid. And the emotions they stir up deserve care, attention, and space to be processed.

You Don’t “Move On” — You Move Forward

It’s common to hear phrases like “move on” or “get over it,” but this language doesn’t reflect the true nature of grief. Instead, we learn to move forward, carrying our memories, love, and lessons with us. We don’t forget, but we find a way to live again with meaning and joy.

For some, grief may not show up immediately. It may come months or even years later, triggered by a memory, a sound, or a moment. Hypnotherapy can help create a nurturing space to meet whatever arises, without judgement.

A Gentle Path Through Grief

Hypnotherapy works by helping to shift unhelpful thought patterns, soothe emotional overwhelm, and gently guide you toward healing. It honours your journey, wherever you are on the path, and supports you in remembering your loved one while also reclaiming your life.

If you’re feeling stuck in your grief, or simply want some gentle support along the way, hypnotherapy can help you reconnect with your inner strength and wisdom.
